IRVINE, Calif. --- Current UC Irvine women's volleyball player Kari Pestolesi (Huntington Beach/Edison HS) and Anteater alumna Keegan Featherstone (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS), who played from 2002-05 will represent the United States in beach volleyball at the 2008 World University Championships, July 2-7, 2008 in Hamburg, Germany.
Pestolesi, the 2007 West Region AVCA Division I West Region Freshman of the Year, will partner with UC Santa Barbara's Olivia Waldowski as one of beach volleyball duos with Featherstone and partner Lauren Fendrick (UCLA) forming the second pair.
The team was selected after a USAV Beach national team camp and tryout held on May 9-11 in Playa de Rey, Calif.
Current UCI player Devon Sutherland (Corona/Santiago HS) and partner Lauren Paolini (Texas) will serve as one of the alternate teams. Heather Kisner (Texas) and Tanya White (Cal State Los Angeles) will also serve as an alternate team.
Fifty-nine total athletes (36 women and 23 men) representing 30 different colleges participated in the first of two USAV Beach tryout camps, which was led by USAV youth and junior beach coach Danalee Corso. Other coaches included former Anteater Ali Wood; AVP veteran athletes and coaches Brian Corso, Cam Green, and Rocky Mayo; retired AVP athlete and national camp director for Sinjin Smith's beach camps Kerri Eich and South Bay Volleyball Club's Branden Higa
