Tom targets first cap
Tom Huddlestone is aiming for a first full England cap as he joins up with the senior squad for friendlies against the USA and Trinidad & Tobago. The midfielder, still just 21, has received his first senior call-up from Fabio Capello with the first friendly against the USA at Wembley on Wednesday week, May 28.
Capello watched from the stand as Tom scored and set-up the second goal in England Under-21s 2-0 victory against Wales at Wrexham last week.
That was his 26th cap at Under-21 level and now the midfielder is after a first senior cap. "It's just great to be in the squad, that's the main thing for me," said Tom, who appeared in 43 of our 57 matches last season.
"It's a case of going there, working hard and hopefully getting my chance in the America game but if I don't then the whole thing will still be a fantastic experience."
Tom joins Joe Hart, Dean Ashton, Phil Jagielka, David Wheater, Stephen Warnock and Gabriel Agbonlahor as players in the 31-man squad yet to win a senior cap.
"It's not just Fabio being at the (Wales) game, the main incentive is that there are younger players in his squad," added Tom. "The players in the Under-21s know if they play well he won't be shy in giving them a chance."
