President Thabo Mbeki
|
May 17, 2008, 18:15
Top international investors are meeting with President Thabo Mbeki and some cabinet members in Margate, KwaZulu Natal today.
With Mbeki's administration drawing to a close, international investors are being briefed about the transition to the coming elections. It could be the penultimate meeting of Mbeki's International Investment Advisory council, if another one is not held next year. This is as investors want to know about the transition and transfer of power.
With world leaders discussing ways out of the current global economic turbulence, South Africa is doing the same with the added problem of its electricity shortage.
The world's top investors have been coming to South Africa at least twice a year over the past few years, and as the president prepares to leave office, his advisory council may now be in a position to reflect and assess how much it has helped to market the country and whether their advice has put it on the right track. The meeting ends tomorrow.
