Donations coming in slowly

Donations to help a Kelowna man injured at work are coming in slowly.

Daniel Sheremeto broke his back on March 28 after falling off a roof he was working on.

The 37-year-old father is recovering in Vancouver’s G.F. Strong and his mother-in-law, Wendy Dunne, says he is paralyzed from the waist down.

She says a trust fund to help with the family’s travel and medical expenses is open at TD bank, but not much has been donated.

“The account was opened soon after the accident, but it’s been slow going because there was a glitch when it was first opened. The bank didn’t tell all the tellers how to handle the account so that put us back a bit. To date, about $3,000 has been raised,” says Dunne.

She says every dollar helps as Daniel’s wife is travelling back and forth to Vancouver.

“We are grateful. It may not be as much as I thought may have been raised by now, considering how big a city Kelowna is, but it’s very nice to be able to tell my daughter that she has an extra $3,000 to help with her expenses as she visits Daniel.”

Dunne says it will be awhile before her son-in-law can come home.

“Right now he is paralyzed from the waist down, but he can move his arms. He is out of the ICU and the doctors say it might be August until he can go home.”

Donations to Daniel Sheremeto can be made at any TD Canada Trust. The account is under Dunne’s name.
