Asif Kapadia's epic thriller set for India release
New Delhi (PTI): Indian-origin British director Asif Kapadia's thriller 'Far North,' is set for its theatrical debut in the country.
Based on a short story by Sarah Maitland, the gripping drama in English on the entwined lives of two women in the frigid terrains of the Artic would be released in screens in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
Kapadia, had previously directed adventure film 'The Warrior' starring Irfan Khan in 2001 before commencing 'Far North,' which was filmed under extreme conditions in the Artic for over four years.
Starring Michelle Yeoh, Michelle Krusiec and Sean Bean, the film which premiered at the 2007 Venice Film Festival has been shown at Berlin, London and Dinard film festivals also and has been screened in over 12 countries.
Tim Miller has written the screenplay for the film, which deals with the story of two women whose struggle to lead a life in the Artic drove them to all possible extents.
"Tim and I love folk tales and classic fairy stories and this one had the same special feeling. Although here the lead character's journey was complex and dark," Kapadia said in a release.
The film will be shown at PVR cinema theatres by NDTV Lumiere, an initiative formed by NDTV Imagine, Adlabs founder Manmohan Shetty and film activist-jurist Sunil Doshi.
