Tram land put aside in Fife
TRANSPORT planners are to reserve land in west Fife for a possible extension of Edinburgh's tram line.
The new bridge across the Forth is being built with the capacity to take light-rail, such as trams, and council chiefs in Fife want to safeguard land for a possible extension of Edinburgh's tram line linking in to Edinburgh Airport.
It is envisaged that a tram line would serve the Forth bridgehead area and the eastern expansion of Dunfermline, which has attracted a lot of Edinburgh-bound commuters to live in recent years.
Stuart Knowles, a senior transport official at Fife Council, said it was prudent for the local authority to reserve a corridor of land for buses or a light railway for the area towards the new Forth bridge.
