AN ELDERLY man from Eden had to be airlifted to hospital on Friday following a collision between two cars on the A6.
The incident happened at around 10.20am at Hackthorpe near Penrith and involved a blue Renault Clio and a silver Toyota Corolla.
The driver of the Clio was a 78-year-old man from Great Strickland who had to be cut from his vehicle by fire fighters. He was taken to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary by air ambulance while the driver of the Toyota, a 70-year-old man from County Durham, followed by road ambulance.
Three passengers from the Toyota - a man and two women - were also injured in the collision, which occurred at the junction with Great Strickland Road. An off-duty paramedic provided first aid until ambulance, police and fire personnel arrived.
