Gillett-Evernham Motorsports' Elliott Sadler claimed pole position for Saturday night's re-christened ‘Sprint Showdown' qualifying race at the Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Sadler turned a best lap of 29.187-seconds (185.014mph) around the 1.5-mile Lowe's Motor Speedway in his #19 Dodge as GEM cars top-and-tailed the 27 car starting grid for Saturday's 40-lap non championship race.
Sadler's teammate Patrick Carpentier will bring up the rear of the field in his #10 entry after spinning during his qualifying run and will now have to scrap hard to earn one of the two transfer spots to the Sprint All Star race later on Saturday evening. Should the Canadian miss out on a top two finishing position then he, like everyone else who finishes the two-part race outside the top two, will have to hope that he is elected into the main event via the fan vote.
Alongside Sadler on the front row of the starting grid will be the #83
Red Bull Toyota of Brian Vickers. Vickers, whose second year Cup Series crew sprung a major surprise by winning the annual Pit Crew Challenge earlier in the weekend, turned a lap of 29.223-seconds (184.786mph).
Roush-Fenway Racing's David Ragan will start third with the second Red Bull entry of AJ Allmendinger fourth, Robby Gordon fifth and Dave Blaney completing the top six.
Elsewhere on the grid Johnny Sauter will start eleventh as he continues to pilot the #70 Haas CNC Racing entry, Kasey Kahne 15th in the third GEM Dodge and Chad McCumbee 18th for the returning BAM Racing outfit.
Kenny Wallace, who earned last year's fan vote while driving for Furniture Row Racing, will miss this year's race after crashing his #37 Front Row Motorsports Chevrolet during qualifying.
