KOLLAM: Southern Railway (Chennai), SAI (Bangalore), SAI (Chennai) and SAI (Secundarabad) moved into the semifinals of the TKM Champion Trophy hockey tournament at the FMN Hockey stadium here on Friday. In the quarterfinals, Southern Railway crushed Thycaud Hockey Club, Thiruvananthapuram 6-0. Gautham struck a brace (7th & 57th) while Mahendra Singh (12th), Maheshwaran (42nd), Divakar (48th) and Vijayan (57th) sounded the boards in the Chennai side’s emphatic win. SAI (Bangalore) overcame SAI (Kollam) 2-0 to enter last four. After a goalless first half, K.T. Bopanna (54th) and Muthappa (63rd) scored the goals for the winner. In the third quarterfinal, SAI (Chennai) defeated Magnum Hockey Club (Kollam) 3-1. Vinod Rayer (7th & 63rd) and Gyanavel (61st) scored for Chennai while Shayam S. Pillai (18th) was the goal-scorer for the Kollam side. SAI (Secundarabad) defeated St. Albert’s College (Ernakulam) 2-0 to complete the semifinal line-up. Sandeep (50th) and Sarvan Kumar (59th) were the goal-scorers for the SAI side. — Special Correspondent
