Cyberduck is an open source SFTP (SSH Secure File Transfer) and FTP browser licensed under the GPL. The David Kocher-developed FTP client has just reached
version 3.0. It is a major update offering new protocols and enhancements to the software's main features.
Cyberduck's main aim is usability, using a consistent graphical user interface
for both SFTP and FTP browsing, supporting multiple connections at a time. Best of all, especially for Mac users, drag-and-drop is supported for transferring files between server and client, while a reliable transfer queue keeps track of the pending file transfers. Any file transfer can be stopped and resumed at any time, whether it's an upload or a download you're carrying out, with just a single command.
The open source FTP client also allows for local files to be synchronized with files on the server. It integrates with Keychain, Rendezvous and, of course, AppleScript. Cyberduck integrates seamlessly with external editors such as SubEthaEdit, BBEdit, TextMate and others. But, as a user of the handy application for Mac OS X, you must know all this, so let's get back to the new stuff version 3.0 brings, shall we?
The changelog also reveales that Cyberduck 3 now offers support for both Amazon Simple Storage Service and WebDAV protocols. It can also use Quick Look right in the browser (Leopard). Added features include the ability to rename files on Amazon S3, and copying files on both WebDAV and Amazon S3. Another good change, as far as the UI goes this time, is the new browser window in which the bookmark editor now appears. Cyberduck 3 even lets you open a link in a web browser now.
The bug that failed transfers larger than 2GB has also been dealt with. Click
