Tunisia: Tunis Hosts First Workshop Destined to Promote the Integration of the Disabled into Social and Professional Life

Tunis,

The Tunisian Association for the Development of Digital Technology and Human Resources (ATTR) presided by Prof Slaheddine Gherissi in collaboration with the French "BrailleNET" Association chaired by Prof Dominique Burger, are organizing the first workshop destined to upgrade administrative websites in order to facilitate their online access to the disabled in conformity with international norms.

The workshop which is the first of its kind, comes in implementation of President's Ben Ali decision taken on February 24, 2007 to upgrade public administration websites with a view of facilitating their access by people with disabilities.

The workshop which is to be held in two stages for reasons of certification, aims at providing public and private institutions with Web training access in line with international accessibility norms (W3/C WAI).

It also aims at reaching the following goals:

- Improving and harmonizing understanding of the fundamental concepts of web accessibility of computer professionals in Tunisia

- Harmonizing their understanding of the fundamental concepts of web accessibility, as well as the normative framework provided by W/3C

- Developing accessibility evaluation skills of online services following W/3/C, recommendations and the AcessiWeb methodology

- Enabling these professionals to develop online services in conformity with W/3C recommendations

- Progressively set up a competency pole of web accessibility in Tunisia , capable of organizing trainings and proposing AccessiWeb labeling audits.

The workshop which will take place at the El Ghazala technological pole respectively, on May 12, 13 and 14 and 16 and 17, 2008, will lead to the deliverance of diplomas, a prerequisite to be part of the AccessiWeb work group.

Participants will include internet and multimedia project chiefs, webmasters, HTML integrators, webgraphists etc.
