THE invaluable work of mental health nurses has been celebrated at Rochford Hospital.
International Nurses' Day recognises the hard work of nurses and coincides with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, regarded as the founder of modern nursing.
Nursing and support staff celebrated the day in Poplar Ward, at Rochford Hospital.
As part of the event yesterday, 60 balloons were released to mark the 60th anniversary of the NHS.
Dr Patrick Geoghegan, chief executive of South Essex Partnership NHS Trust said: "Nurses are the lifeline of our trust, so I am thrilled International Nurses' Day celebrates all the hard work they do."
