Milosevic's former party acceptable in new Serbian Cabinet, EU suggests

BRUSSELS, Belgium: The EU's foreign policy chief has suggested that the bloc would support including the Socialist Party of former strongman Slobodan Milosevic in Serbia's new government.

Solana says Serbian voters have demonstrated their desire to be part of the EU. Any government that fulfills those hopes is acceptable, he says.

Replying to a question on whether the bloc would welcome the inclusion of the Socialists in the Cabinet, Solana said Tuesday the EU would back any stable government.

The Socialists were blamed for backing Milosevic in a series of wars in the 1990s. After Sunday's elections they hold the key to whether Serbia's pro-Western parties will manage to form a stable ruling coalition.
