Title:Nordea Union Board meets management and members of Polish Works Council

Description / Introduction:
Discussions tackled the collaboration with trade unions in the New Economic Markets (Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia) and the level of Profit Sharing in the region.

- Labour news from UNI global union - for trade unions in a global services economy. -
Content (Everyone):

The New Economic Markets (NEM) have nearly 4000 employees and this number is rapidly increasing. In Poland for example, the number of branches will increase by 150 between 2007 and 2009.

However, union membership is only 6 percent in the Polish union, compared to approximately 70 percent in the Nordic countries. The head of the Polish union, Zbigniew Kalenbach, explained that it is not as beneficial being a union member in Poland as in the Nordic countries due to differences in regulation. The union has however a collective agreement and influences the everyday work situation for all employees in Poland.

Another issue discussed was the level of Profit Sharing. In NEM, employees receive 30 percent of the level in the Nordic countries. In 2008, this will increase to 40 percent due to increased living costs.
