Police find naked man peeping into homes

GASTONIA, N.C. -- A convicted sex offender is back behind bars, accused of walking through a neighborhood naked and peeping into a home.

Officers used a Taser stun gun on him eight times to take him to custody.

Police were alerted to the neighborhood after a woman called 911 Sunday evening.

“I said, ‘Honey, there is a naked man in front of our house with nothing on but his shoes,’” said Angela Paysour.

Paysour says she spotted Derrick Keener in the middle of the street, naked.

“Completely. He had nothing on but his white tennis shoes,” said Paysour

She says she watched him go in other people's yards, as if he was trying to find a place to hide.

“Literally, he walked back and forth in front of this house 15 times last night,” said Paysour.

When officers responded, they say they found Keener peeping through another homeowner’s door. He took off in a pickup truck. When officers tracked him down, he locked himself inside, and resisted arrest, according to Donna Lahser, spokeswoman for the Gastonia Police Department.

When Keener finally unlocked the truck, officers Tased him eight times to take him into custody.

“He kicked one of the officers in the stomach. He wouldn't do what he needed to do so they could get him handcuffed,” said Lahser.

Keener made his first appearance in court Monday afternoon, via video from the Gaston County Jail. He’s charged with indecent exposure, resisting a public officer and peeping tom.

Department of Correction records show Keener is a sex offender who spent close to eight years in South Carolina prisons, after a lewd act with a 10-year-old in York County.

He was released from jail in 2005. The assistant district attorney said Keener has had several other similar prior convictions and called him a flight risk. The judge increased Keener’s bond from $5,000 to $250,000.
