1 Teen Dead, 1 Arrested After Fight At AT&T Park
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / AP / BCN) ―
An 18-year-old San Carlos man remained jailed on $1 million bail Sunday following the death of another teen with whom he got into a fight near AT&T Park toward the end of a San Francisco Giants home game.
Police Sgt. Neville Gittens said Taylor Buckley turned himself into police on Saturday night after the 18-year-old Redwood City man died at San Francisco General Hospital earlier in the day.
Gittens said the dead teen fell and struck his head on the ground after being punched Friday night at a plaza adjacent to McCovey Cove that is not part of the ballpark. Gittens described the area outside the ballpark as being just behind centerfield and near the ferry terminal.
The Philadelphia Phillies-San Francisco Giants game was under way, but it was not yet known if the two, who did not know each other, had attended it before the altercation, according to Gittens.
Buckley was arrested just after the fight on suspicion of aggravated assault, but posted bail and was released, Gittens said. A murder warrant was put out for his arrest after the other teen died, he said.
Calls were made to Buckley's family by homicide investigators and he then turned himself in to authorities at the Hall of Justice, Gittens rsaid.
A spokesman for the San Francisco Medical Examiner said Sunday that the victim's name was being withheld until his body is sent the city morgue pending the donation of his organs.
Giants spokeswoman Staci Slaughter said the team would work with police to prevent similar incidents in the future.
A 21-year-old Redwood City man was fatally stabbed outside the ballpark in 2004 after watching Barry Bonds hit his 700th career home run.
