There are cards out there that offer password protection. I looked into this once, and found them “so so”. If your goal is to discourage the casual data thief, then this will do. If you’re looking for industrial strength encryption, then these tools won’t offer it.
Use file encryption instead, and transfer the encrypted files onto the SD card.

I just noticed a line of Gizmos that Crucial sells that have a built in security system. That tells me that you cant. But you can password protect certain files like Word and Excel
I am not quite sure what you are trying to achieve, but if you just want to make the files on the card password protected then you may want to encrypt the files on your computer, then transfer them to SD, and then use the encryption program again with your password to retrieve the files from the SD card.
