AS IAN Poulter prepared for his late second-round tee-time at the Players Championship yesterday, most of his British compatriots appeared likely to make early exits from the £4.75m event.
Five of the seven British players in the 144-man field played in the morning yesterday and Luke Donald was the only one who moved in the right direction.

He picked up one stroke in 11 holes to improve to two over, no mean feat in winds gusting to more than 20mph which were forecast to become even stronger during the afternoon.

But it was not a good morning for Lee Westwood, who dropped four shots in 11 holes to fall to five over, one more than the projected cut.

Compatriots Richard Johnson, Paul Casey and Justin Rose also faced big challenges. Johnson was six over after ten holes, Casey seven over through ten holes and Rose seven over after 11 holes.

Overnight leader Sergio Garcia, who shot a six-under-par 66 on Thursday, had a late second round tee time, as did Poulter, who started the day at three under.
