Moldova's Gays Hope to Stage First Pride Parade

Gays in the Eastern European nation of Moldova are optimistic they will finally be able to have a pride parade this year, on their seventh attempt, the website UK Gay News reports.

The parade is scheduled to be held Sunday, May 11, in the capital, Chisnau, where municipal authorities have always found a reason to cancel previous ones, according to the organizing group, GenderDoc-M. This year, city officials told GenderDoc-M that under a new law, the group does not need permission but simply must have its application for the parade registered with the municipal government. GenderDoc-M also will have to check with city officials a couple of days before the parade to make sure it does not conflict with other events, a spokesperson for the group told UK Gay News.

Other scheduled gay pride activities include laying flowers at the city's monument to victims of oppression, a reception celebrating GenderDoc-M's 10th anniversary, concerts, and a pageant dubbed Miss Flawless Queen, the website notes.

    Comment:

Its important to be reminded that there are more severely oppressed members of our community than we here in the United States. With the beginning of the "pride" season upon us, let our thoughts be for the safety and advancement of rights for gays abroad, who may not be able to drink and dance half naked in the streets; those for whom a parade is a rights march, and not as much of a celebration of rights won. Let us remember how far we've come and celebrate the triumphs while we remember how far we would like to go.

This gays have no such rights. They don't have any rights at all. What they are doing is not right. All of them should be kicked out of the country, and never allowed back. While about the Chisinau government, they are GAYS as well if they have allowed such event to happen.

OPINION: As Sarah Palin stood before the average American family Wednesday night, touting hers as one and the same -- her five-months-pregnant, 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, dressed in formfitting fabric appearing to almost accentuate her baby bump while the daddy-to-be, clean-shaven (unlike his rougher-looking MySpace photos), sat alongside adoringly, the picture of Abercrombie perfection -- for the first time, I saw what all this gay marriage fuss was all about.
