Use of flashing pictures inflict physical pain on site visitors.
Several visitors to the Epilepsy Foundation Web site suffered migraines and near-seizures after hackers bombarded the site with flashing pictures and links to pages with rapidly flashing images.
According to the Associated Press, the hackers exploited a security hole in the Web site that allowed them to quickly make several posts and overwhelm the forums. The links were also disguised as helpful advice.
"They were out to create seizures," said Ken Lowenberg, senior director of Web and print publishing for the foundation.
