Olympic Torch Carried Up Mount Everest
05/08/08 by Kyle

It is traditional to have a torch relay at the beginning of each Olympics. This is when someone runs with a ceremonial torch in his or her hand, and then passes it to the next person until reaching a permanent place for the flame. In honor of the 2008 Olympic Games, one torch was carried all the way to the top of Mount Everest!

This torch was a separate one from the main Olympic torch, but the event was still very impressive. After all, it took a 19-member team to carry the torch up the giant mountain. Mount Everest is over 29,000 feet tall!

Are you getting excited for the Olympics to start? What is your favorite Olympic sport?
