Verizon Wireless Opens New Concept Store in North Kingstown, Rhode Island
By Anil Sharma TMCnet Contributing Editor Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless has opened a new concept store in Rhode Island, the first of its kind in the state offering consumers a hands-on experience with wireless voice, data, music, and video services.
The North Kingstown location integrates a number of new systems and operational enhancements designed to streamline the sales process and increase customer satisfaction, including notebook computers demonstrating BroadbandAccess, the company's high-speed wireless Internet service; more than 55 working models of handsets, PC cards, and other devices for customers to try.
Also, a bill payment kiosk allows customers to make account payments quickly and easily using checks, cash or credit/debit cards and the site includes both a customer service and technical support department.
"The North Kingstown location provides increased customer service and shopping convenience to our Rhode Island customers," Verizon Wireless District Manager, Danny Paluzzi said. "Increasing demand for Verizon Wireless products such as wireless broadband Internet, is driving our network and store expansions across New England." Verizon Wireless has invested nearly $44 billion since it was formed to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network. Regionally the company has invested nearly $2.2 billion into its New England network, including over $292 million in 2007 alone.
Verizon recently reported another quarter of strong sales and operational results.
In the first quarter of 2008, Verizon Wireless continued to lead the industry in key metrics, and Verizon's Wireline business reported continued growth in sales of domestic FiOS (News - Alert) services and global strategic business services.
Verizon reported first-quarter 2008 earnings of 57 cents in diluted earnings per share (EPS). This compares with first-quarter 2007 earnings of 51 cents per share, both before and after an extraordinary item and income from discontinued operations that have been divested.
