Fed Cup: Argentina beats Germany 3-2 to reach World Group

PILAR, Argentina: Bettina Jozami beat Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-1 Sunday to give Argentina the clinching point in a 3-2 Fed Cup victory over Germany and send the South Americans to the World Group.

"I am really happy it turned out this way on my first singles here," Jozami said. "Things turned out OK, although I was nervous, even if I didn't show it.

"I'm glad I won this important match for Argentina. I'm looking forward to playing the World Cup."

Earlier Sunday, Gisela Dulko beat Martina Muller 6-2, 6-4 on outdoor clay at Pilara Tennis Club for Argentina to lead 2-1.

Sabine Lisicki and Jasmin Woehr completed the tie with by beating Jorgelina Cravero and Jozami 6-0, 1-6, 7-6 (2) in the meaningless doubles.

Jozami had three breaks to one in the first set on the back of drop shots and four aces at vital times, but Kerber saved seven set points before conceding.

In the second set, Kerber held serve to trail 5-1 but Jozami closed it out on her second match point.

Earlier Sunday, Dulko and Muller broke each other twice until the fifth game of the first set when Dulko then won four straight to win it..

Dulko broke to lead 3-1 in the second set and again in the final game.

"It was a close match as Muller fought very hard," Dulko said.

On Saturday, Dulko beat Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 6-2 and Muller defeated Jorgelina Cravero 6-1, 6-0.
