Qwest to close Pocatello call center

By The Associated Press

IDAHO FALLS - Qwest Communications intends to close a customer service center in Pocatello this summer.

But at least 143 of the center's employees will have the option of transfering to the call center in Idaho Falls.

The Denver-based telecommunications company announced the decision Wednesday.

Qwest spokesman Bob Gravely says the company is seeking to consolidate operations and the call center in Pocatello, opened in 1998, was one of its smallest.

Last month, Qwest announced plans to expand the Idaho Falls operation by 250 workers this year. So far, Gravely says 115 new workers have been hired in Idaho Falls.

The Pocatello call center will shut down July 22.
