Research in the last years shows that in Bulgaria sterility affects men more often than women. This claims ass. prof. Emiliya Konova, manager of Medical center for reproductive health in Pleven, cited by health.bg.According to Konova although the problem is serious, Bulgarian men show vague interest in the study of their reproductive functions, even when it is possible free spermograms to be made.
In the autumn in the Pleven in vitro center a donor program has begun but it happened that a very small part of the applicant men are suitable for donors.
The tests show infections and disturbed structure of the spermatozoa with the most common reasons for this being that more men are smokers or have promiscuous sexual behaviour.
The center plans several months multiple tests for the applicants within the donor program for men.
The center has implemented a unique for Bulgaria test which has shown a much higher percent of damage of the spermatozoa of Bulgarian men compared to the men from USA and Europe.
Worldwide, the reproductive problems among men and women are 50:50 including the couple where both factors are overlapped.
